Peyto Lake, renowned for its distinct bright turquoise color, is one of the most photographed locations in Canada's Banff National Park. Situated along the Icefields Parkway, this glacial-fed lake is shaped like a wolf's head and draws its unique hue from the rock flour carried into the lake by meltwater from the Peyto Glacier. Peyto Lake is accessible via the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93 North), about 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of Lake Louise. To reach the main viewpoint, visitors can park at the Peyto Lake parking lot and follow the short, well-maintained trail leading up to Bow Summit, the highest point on the parkway and the location of the viewing platform.

The color of Peyto Lake is most vibrant in the summer months when the flow of meltwater is at its peak. Bow Summit, where the primary viewpoint is located, stands at an elevation of approximately 2,088 meters (6,850 feet), making it one of the highest accessible points by road in Canada.

Peyto Lake is named after Bill Peyto, an early trail guide and trapper in the Banff area. The lake and its viewpoint have been a staple of Rocky Mountain tourism for decades, celebrated for their stunning natural beauty and the ease of access to such a remarkable vista.
